The 4-second energy reserve of a PSU8600 system

The BUF8600 is an expansion module for SITOP PSU8600 basic devices. Its internal double-layer capacitors hold the 24 V output up during a mains failure – 4 s at full 40 A load, stretching to 40 s at 5 A – enough to ride through dips or bring a process to a defined stop.

Maintenance-free capacitors instead of batteries

Double-layer capacitors need no replacement cycle and work from -25 to +60 C with no derating window, so the buffer reserve does not age like a lead-acid block; a 3-color LED shows operation, state of charge, buffering and error at a glance.

Clips on without wiring

Power and data travel over the integrated System Clip Link connector: the module snaps onto the DIN rail next to the basic unit, reports its status via PROFINET through the PSU8600, and adds a remote On/Off contact so buffering can be disabled during planned plant shutdowns.

Seconds of reserve without battery service

Four seconds at the full 40 A – or forty at 5 A – cover voltage dips, generator transfer and controlled shutdowns, and the ultracap storage reaches this without the maintenance, temperature limits or end-of-life replacement of a battery.

Integrated into the PSU8600 diagnostic chain

Buffer status, state of charge and errors appear on the 3-color LED, on a signal contact and via PROFINET through the basic unit, feeding the same predictive-maintenance data as the rest of the PSU8600 system.

System growth without rewiring

Up to two buffer components (BUF8600, UPS8600) can be placed in one system group, and the System Clip Link carries both power and data – so extending buffer time is a snap-on job, not a panel rebuild.

For dips and controlled stops the BUF8600 capacitor modules cover 100 ms to 10 s; for minutes to hours the UPS8600 module with BAT8600 battery modules takes over. A maximum of two buffer components can be combined in one PSU8600 system group.
